It's amazing what you can do from the comfort of your bathtub. You could, for example, set up a spontaneous outing to a gastropub with your boyfriend and friend - coordinating meet up times and work schedules while trying not to get bubbles on your Blackberry.
Oh modern technology, how I love you.
And so we met at the Wellington Gastropub, Dima and I were early so I got to partake in my other favourite past time besides eating, beer drinking. The Wellington Gastropub is a good place to do it, they have several local brews on tap as well as some specialties that are hard to find. I decided to try Barley Day's 'Wind & Sail' Dark Ale and declared it my beer for the night. I also took this opportunity to stare into the kitchen like it was a reality cooking show with a celebrity chef. Surprisingly no one was injured or yelled at - it seemed quite organized actually. It was also really neat to see their shelves full of preserves and it was extra neat when I spied one of the wait staff handing the Chef a jar from the shelf. Those jars aren't just for decoration!
When our friend arrived we chatted and ate some of the bread from the Art-is-in Bakery and of course, drank more beer. Eventually we did order food from the menu that changes daily and drank more beer. For my first course I had: Quebec beets with rocket, Blue Ermite cheese, Granny Smith apple puree, spiced almonds, oven dried kalamatas and red wine dressing. Yes, it was amazing and I did at one point have to defend my plate from invading forks trying to spear beets. I especially enjoyed the spiced almonds - they were unlike any I had ever tasted, sweet but with some zing! My second course was a striped bass with potato scallion puree, oyster mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, shallots and lemon tarragon dressing. I really enjoyed the sundried tomato and bass combination, a little bitter with sweet. Dessert, how can I resist dessert? I ordered the apple pecan cake with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. I did not share.
After dessert was finished we moved over to the lounge portion of the restaurant where we could finish our drinks, chat too loudly about inappropriate subjects and generally enjoy the rest of our Friday evening. I really enjoyed our spontaneous evening out; I wonder what else I can organize from the bathtub.
