(Turkey on dark rye @ The Butchery)
I usually go out for lunch on Thursday's. If you follow me on twitter you'll occasionally see me tweet about #sandwichthursday followed by a foursquare location or photo. I started doing Sandwich Thursday at work as a treat for my co-workers - I'd gather orders for DiRienzo sandwiches, fax the order sheet and then pick up the bags and bags of sandwiches around lunch time. Since then I've expanded my sandwich and lunch horizons and have discovered several fantastic spots in Ottawa where you should indulge yourself at least once a week. Look forward to my Sandwich Thursday posts every Thursday right before lunch - I promise you won't be disappointed. We'll start this series with sandwiches from The Butchery.
I usually buy my meat from The Butchery, it's half way between my house and my parents so I go by it quite often. It wasn't until they moved to their new, bigger location in the same mall that I discovered their deli sandwiches. For a whole $3.99 you get a monstrous deli style sandwich with your choice of meat (turkey, smoked turkey, red rare roast beef, roast pork, black forest ham and smoked meat), bread (Richmond Bakery dark rye, light rye or bun), toppings and a beautiful kosher style brined pickle. Be careful though, because you order at the deli meat counter and it can get crowded they do make sandwich mistakes. I've received smoked meat instead of turkey, no toppings instead of toppings and they've even forgotten to include my pickle. Even with the mistakes I will continue to return to The Butchery for possibly the cheapest, largest, freshest sandwich in Ottawa.
