(Avacado, bacon sandwich w/ salad @ Bowich)
Bowich (best organic sandwich) is a sandwich shop on the north end of Bank Street. They have cool modern furniture from Mikaza, slow trip hop playing and fun roosters painted on the door of the bathroom - I love it. I also like their philosophy; trying to create the best sandwich that are made to order with fresh organic ingredients. Unfortunately it has some problems..
(Club sandwich w/ potatoes @ Bowich)
As much as I want to love this sandwich shop there are some big flaws that can't go unnoticed. The first problem is how long it takes to get a sandwich. They do warn you on their website that if you want the sandwich waiting for you when you come in you should phone in your order ahead of time however, not everybody can check a web page before having lunch and a 15 minute wait to have your sandwich assembled is a bit much. Also the cost is quite high, $13.00 for a club sandwich (pictured above) that seems to be mostly under dressed greens is expensive. They do provide you with a side of salad or potatoes but they are sides that don't add anything to final product and don't have to be there. That being said, I thought the sandwich was okay. I loved the sour dough which was brushed with olive oil and grilled and I thought the cherry tomatoes was a nice touch - I just wish the greens weren't drowning the meat.
I will not return to Bowich for a sandwich unless they make a few changes to their prices and their sandwich offerings. I believe there are other sandwiche shops in Ottawa that share Bowich's passion for fresh organic ingredients but offer a better product at a cheaper price.
