(Smoked salmon w/ cream cheese and house pasta salad @ Thyme & Again)
Since I am now confined to an office, my car parked 15 minutes away and limited to a half hour lunch break I am having a hard time indulging in my weekly Sandwich Thursday. I guess it just means I'll have to work harder to ensure I get my weekly treat - what's a work week if all you have to look forward to is a bagged lunch? Anyway, last week I had the opportunity to go to Thyme & Again for lunch with Dima. I've had their sweets before but have never tried any of their prepared foods or sandwiches so I was really looking forward to it.
(Egg salad w/ veggie salad @ Thyme & Again)
I was really hungry since I had just finished a long morning of bread delivery so just about everything Thyme & Again had to offer looked amazing. I was immediately drawn to their dessert case and almost had a lunch consisting of a slice of cake with a side of brownie but I steered myself back to the savory section and ordered a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with house pasta salad; Dima chose the egg salad with crunchy veggie salad. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon and liked the cucumber that gave it a little crunch. Dima said his egg salad sandwich was delicious and raved about his crunchy veggie salad saying that this was how he preferred salads to be served - chunky and crisp. My house pasta salad was good but I felt it needed a touch of salt to be perfect.
(Cherry chocolate vegan brownie @ Thyme & Again)
Of course I couldn't resist the dessert case. Dima and I split this decadent cherry chocolate vegan brownie. We mmmm'd over every fork full and it was hard to share, in hindsight I should have bought my own.
Prices are on the higher end of the sandwich spectrum but with quality ingredients that are local to the Ottawa area and Art-is-in buns it's worth the cost. Thyme & Again also has a take home menu that changes weekly and offers several locally made sweets and jams for sale in their retail store. One can easily spend a lot of time looking at all the goodies available before inevitably buying a boxful of sweets for home. Come around lunch and you'll see a street full of people lounging on chairs and tables enjoying their lunch - with the sun shining it seems like a pleasant way to spend a lunchhour.
