A cronut is a croissant/donut hybrid dessert, essentially a deep fried croissant. They were developed by Dominique Ansel at his bakery in SoHo and have caused both tourists and locals to line up hours before the bakery opens to get their hands on one. The cronut craze has spread around the world and imitations can be found in bakeries as far away as Las Vegas, Houston and Melbourne, Australia - not bad for something that Ansel came up with on a whim in May.
On my last day of this NYC visit the Boyfriend and I woke up early to brave the cronut line. We spent three hours waiting for the chance to buy a cronut and we weren't even guaranteed to get one. Here's how it panned out:
